All years! - conversation assistant

Hello! My name is Tammy and I am the new English Language Assistant at the school. I am working with all classes from 1st of primary to 4th of ESO, and everybody has made me feel very welcome.

Since I came at the end of September, I have done a variety of things to help the students and teachers. I have been very helpful with the pronunciation of words, and informing the students of how things are in England. I regularly do dictations so the students can get used to my accent and listen to an English native. This can be hard sometimes so the students have to listen carefully as they are still getting used to the pace and accent.

When I first arrived, I talked about myself and the town where I come from. The students then had the opportunity to ask any questions they had. I have also prepared presentations on discussions on different topics. We have looked at Halloween and bonfire night which gave us an insight in to the English culture, and how England celebrate special events. In some classes we have looked at `British slang´ which is the way some teenagers in England speak. This is different to the way adults speak and we compared phrases we use here in Vilanova to the ones used in England.

I also work with individuals and small groups on topics they are working on in class, grammar structures and general conversations practising different tenses. This helps to prepare for exams and improve fluency and pronunciation in English.

We are going to start watching a programme called Extr@ which is created for English learners to improve  listening and understanding skills. The episodes are quite short but they are funny and helpful.
Here is a link to a website which has activities and transcripts of the episodes:
